Hancheng Li, born in 2001 in Inner Mongolia, China, is an emerging percussionist and handpan artist on the international stage. His musical journey began in Inner Mongolia and Shanghai, later expanding to Thailand, Belgium, and New York, where he cultivated a unique global perspective through continuous advanced training and artistic exchange. He specializes in marimba, a wide range of percussion instruments, and the handpan, delivering performances that balance nuanced sensitivity with cross-genre expressiveness.
Currently, he is pursuing his bachelor’s degree at the College of Music, Mahidol University, Thailand, under the mentorship of renowned percussionist Dr. Wannapha Yannavut. His formative training also includes guidance from masters such as Pablo Rieppi of the Juilliard School Pre-College and Qingfeng Du, a National First-Class Performer in China. As a distinguished young performer, Li has been selected twice for the prestigious Universal Marimba Competition in Belgium (2017, 2024) and was awarded First Prize at the Young Artist Music Contest in Thailand (2022) . He is also a recipient of the Special Talent Award from the UK’s Shodement Global 12 Challenge (2021).
In 2024, he served as Percussion Co-Principal of the Siam Sinfonietta and has performed with ensembles including the China Dunshan Symphony Orchestra as a special guest (2019) , amassing extensive stage and orchestral experience. As the Official Endorser of Echopans Handpan, Li has been actively promoting the art of the handpan through performances, collaborations, and educational projects across Asia and beyond. His original compositions — including Stars Over the Prairie, Dance of the Roses, and Prairie Dreams — have garnered tens of millions of streams online, resonating widely with audiences.
In 2022, Dance of the Roses was selected as the official soundtrack for the promotional film of Chai Bu Xi Grand Canyon in Hubei Active in media and commercial collaborations, he has been featured on Hunan TV’s Day Day Up and has created high-quality musical content for prestigious brands including Chow Sang Sang (2025), NIO (2024), Burberry (2022), Converse (2022), and Salomon (2023), contributing to documentary and promotional film projects. Marking a new phase in his international career, Li successfully passed the selection for the 2026 WPG European Tour in 2025. With a mature ability to bridge classical and popular genres, as well as art and the marketplace, he continues to push the boundaries of musical expression
