Anneke is a percussionist currently in her third year of undergraduate studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where she studies with Kevin Man. Her musical journey began with piano at age five, followed by drum kit and percussion. She has since developed a particular artistic focus on marimba. Anneke began learning percussion in 2015 with Sandy Sin at the Sydney Percussion Studio, where she now teaches individual and ensemble lessons. From 2018-2023, she continued her formal percussion training with Joshua Hill and J.B. Smith at the Conservatorium High School, where she was recognised with ENCORE nominations for both HSC Music 2 and Music Extension.
Anneke has appeared multiple times as both a soloist and ensemble performer at major venues including the Sydney Opera House and Town Hall. Her achievements span national and international stages, including prize-winning performances at the Ryde, Sydney, and Australian Percussion Eisteddfods, Marimbafest, and radio performances. In 2023, her performance of Emmanuel Séjourné’s Concerto for Marimba and Strings won her the Year 12 Concerto Competition. She was then invited to perform with the Strathfield Symphony Orchestra, where she played Chin Cheng Lin’s Marimba Concerto No. 1. In 2025, she won the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Concerto Competition and will perform Keiko Abe’s Prism Rhapsody in late 2026.
Anneke performed at the 2022 BOOM! International Festival of Percussion with the Sydney Percussion Studio Senior Ensemble. At Marimbafest 2024, she participated in masterclasses with internationally acclaimed percussionists, including Matthew Lau, Kana Omori, Machi Ishida, Adam Tan, Ivan Trevino, and members of the Ju Percussion Group, Han-Yen Kao and Han Chih Tai. Anneke was a Young Artist in Residence with Synergy Percussion, performing with the ensemble and Swiss percussionist Fritz Hauser. In 2025, she was selected as one of only 30 participants worldwide for the 17th International Keiko Abe Marimba Academy.
During the program, she studied with Keiko Abe, Pius Cheung, and Tomoko Nakamura, culminating in a concert at the Toho Gakuen School of Music where she performed Abe’s Marimba d’amore. After returning to Sydney, Anneke was invited to perform in FORMA ENSEMBLE’s debut, performing Michael Gordon’s Timber. Anneke’s diverse performance experiences reflect her dedication to expanding the boundaries of percussion repertoire. With a primary focus on contemporary marimba and multi-percussion, she strives to engage with works that push the limits of both technical precision and expressive depth.
