Ana Solano

Costa Rica

Ana Solano is a Costa Rican percussionist, educator, and content creator, recognized for her artistic excellence, social commitment, and leadership within the Latin American music community. With more than fourteen years of experience, her work has developed across symphonic, chamber, contemporary, and Latin American repertoires.

She is one of the few professional female percussionists in Central America, and one of the artists currently making a difference in terms of visibility, representation, and access within the field of percussion. She is also the third woman in history to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Music with an emphasis in Percussion from the University of Costa Rica, a significant milestone for the institution and for women musicians in the country.

Throughout her career, she has been invited to perform with prominent ensembles and artists such as Ricky Martin, the Women’s Philharmonic Orchestra of Costa Rica, the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica, the National Women’s Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica, the National Women’s Symphonic Band of Costa Rica, the Band of Concerts of San José, the University of Costa Rica Symphony Orchestra, and the Women’s Philharmonic Orchestra. Internationally, she participated as a guest with the University of Minnesota Percussion Ensemble in 2022 and has also collaborated with the Latin American Percussion Ensemble. In the recording field, she participated in the album “Punto de Encuentro” with the Band of Concerts of San José. She is also the co-founder and manager of Sol Magenta, a Latin music orchestra established in 2022, with which she has worked on the recording of original music as well as on production and artistic management processes. Her musical training began through SINEM (Sistema Nacional de Educación Musical of Costa Rica), a public program focused on communities and areas of high social risk. Through this institution, she gained access to formal musical education that deeply shaped her artistic development.

She currently works as a professor within the same system, giving back to her students the tools, support, and opportunities she herself received. Since the age of 12, she has been involved in social and educational work through Fundación Parque La Libertad, where she participated in programs aimed at supporting young people in accessing education and building their life projects. There, she received multidisciplinary training that included theatre, audiovisual production, radio, communication, teamwork, and public speaking, among many other areas. She also participated in conferences linked to organizations such as UNICEF and was trained to give talks and participate as a panelist. Guided by sociologists and educators, this experience strengthened her social awareness and her vision of art as a tool for transformation. Alongside her work as a performer and educator, she is the author of a children’s music education book titled “Musikinder”, focused on basic solfège theory, aural recognition, singing, intonation, knowledge of musical instruments, and fine motor skill development. The book emphasizes repetition as a pedagogical tool to strengthen musical memory and facilitate learning, reflecting her commitment to accessible and inclusive music education.

In 2025, she was selected by SINEM to represent Costa Rica in Brazil as a panelist for the Iberorquestas program, an international cooperation initiative that promotes music education, orchestral development, and cultural exchange throughout Ibero-America. In this space, she addressed topics related to innovation in musical practices and the authentic use of social media, highlighting how artists can present their identities organically and connect with their audiences. She has also participated internationally in spaces and festivals such as the Boum Percussion Festival (Germany, 2025), FEMUSC (Brazil, 2023), Gramado in Concert (Brazil, 2024), the International Percussion Festival UIS (Colombia), the International Percussion Festival of the Atlantic (Barranquilla, 2024), the Percussion Festival 2 de Julho (Salvador, Brazil, 2024), the Central American Philharmonic Encounter (Honduras, 2022), and Talent Camp (Denmark, 2019).

Beyond her artistic and pedagogical work, she has built a strong presence on social media through her personal brand Ana_LaPercu, where she shares artistic processes, educational content, and behind-the-scenes experiences. Through this platform, she has collaborated with major brands and institutions such as Bansbach Musical Instruments, WAMSB, WGI Latin America, Salsa Banquete, and, most recently, Café Volio, which is supporting her current international journey. Her message promotes the belief that dreams are achievable even when starting from limited-resource contexts, aiming especially to inspire young Latin American musicians, particularly girls and women, to pursue professional careers in music. Through her reach across Latin America, she has become a reference for new generations, using visibility as a tool for empowerment, representation, and change."
