Alejandro Coello Calvo

Alejandro Coello Calvo (b. July 25, 1989) is a Spanish percussionist, producer, and composer. At 23, he began teaching at the Franz Liszt University of Music in Weimar, later performing and lecturing internationally as a soloist, educator, and jury member. With roots in classical, jazz, contemporary, and early music, he combines stylistic range with artistic sensitivity, which has led to premieres of his works in venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Berlin Philharmonie.


He has released several albums, including One Minute Later (with Eric Harland, Ben Williams, and Diego Barber), Percussion Theory (featuring Simon Phillips), and most recently Drago (with Diego Barber, Craig Taborn, and Theo Bleckmann). For over seven years, he has also collaborated with New York’s renowned Sunnyside Records.
